Students upbeat on Tapping Green Energy via Solar Glass

The winning entry from Jamia Millia Islamia.

To commemorate the International Youth Day, The All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation (AIGMF) organised its annual contest for Youth on ‘Green Energy via Solar Glass’.

 

  • 1st Prize (Rs. 25,000) was given to Mohd. Juned aged 21 years, a student of Bachelor of Arts, Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi.

 

  • 2nd Prize (Rs. 15,000) was given to Sarthak Kumar aged 15 years, 10th class student of Sant Nandlal Smriti Vidya Mandir, Ghatshila, Jharkhand.

Vidrala Starts-up the Photovoltaic Plant in Barcelona

Vidrala has begun the launch of its photovoltaic plant of Castellar Vidrio, Barcelona.

Vidrala has begun the launch of its photovoltaic plant of Castellar Vidrio with the energisation of the new facilities in the factory located in Castellar del Vallés, Barcelona. In this way, the company completes the construction which started in March. The new plant has the capacity to produce approximately 8,000 MWh per year of energy. This will mean reducing more than 2,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions to the atmosphere per year. The new plant has more than 1,900 photovoltaic modules up to a power of 6 MW.

Strengthening the Relationship Between Microsoft and the ORC

Microsoft has committed to supporting the FASTNET hollow core optical fibre research at the University of Southampton, cross section of the fibre pictured.

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) recently granted to FASTNET, a collaborative project between Microsoft and the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) at the University of Southampton. Prosperity Partnership grants support business-led research that arise from an industrial need by establishing research at low technology readiness levels (TRL) between businesses and academia.

NSG Group Celebrates the 125th Anniversary of Rossford Plant

The Rossford community joined together to celebrate glass making in the town.

The community of Rossford was founded by glass pioneer Edward Ford, who named the city Rossford by combining his last name with that of his wife, Caroline Ross. From its beginnings in 1898 as a new “company town” focused on glass making to today, Rossford has been known as a community that families and businesses have proudly called home. SORG Group Completes the Repair of Steklarna Hrastnik Furnace B

SORG have completed the repair of Steklarna Hrastnik furnace B.

Steklarna Hrastnik appointed the SORG Group to complete the reconstruction of their furnace B, which was also built by SORG in 2014 as a melting furnace for the production of high-quality flint glass. The new furnace B represents the expansion and modernization of the plant, particularly in terms of environmental and energy aspects.

The regenerative end-port furnace was expanded to increase performance, the furnace design was brought up to the latest state-of-the-art standards and the boosting system, in the form of barrier and melting boosters, was designed in such a way that the electricity share in the melting energy can be increased to 40%.

Şişecam Increased Its Net Sales to TRY 58 Billion in the First Half of 2023

Şişecam has announced its financial results for the first half-year of 2023. The company’s consolidated net sales totalled TRY 58 billion (US$2.9 billion) in the period. International sales – comprising the total of exports made from Türkiye and sales from out of Türkiye production – accounted for 64% of its consolidated sales. Total investment in the first half of the year amounted to TRY 7.1 Billion (US$357 million). In the first half of the year Şişecam produced 2.5 million tons of glass, 2.3 million tons of soda ash, and 1.8 million tons of industrial raw materials.

Verre Industrie Integrates MCM in Glass Processing Operations

The integration of MCM into the Verre Industrie Group has allowed the company to directly carry out the following coatings in small and medium series: anti reflective; hydrophobic; dichroic; mirror and semi-reflective; and anti infrared.

Created in 2012, MCM has five employees and as well as three coating lines.

Verre Industrie has also begun a type qualification campaign for embedded aerospace applications using Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The company is one of the two European glass processors with approval to process the thin glass: cutting, machining, chemical strengthening, screen printing, bending, lamination and coating.
