Vidrala Starts-up the Photovoltaic Plant in Barcelona

Vidrala has begun the launch of its photovoltaic plant of Castellar Vidrio, Barcelona.

Vidrala has begun the launch of its photovoltaic plant of Castellar Vidrio with the energisation of the new facilities in the factory located in Castellar del Vallés, Barcelona. In this way, the company completes the construction which started in March. The new plant has the capacity to produce approximately 8,000 MWh per year of energy. This will mean reducing more than 2,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions to the atmosphere per year. The new plant has more than 1,900 photovoltaic modules up to a power of 6 MW.

This initiative is part of the decarbonisation and energy efficiency plan launched by the Vidrala Group, with the aim of reducing dependence on fossil energy, boosting self-consumption and improving energy efficiency globally with the study and installing renewable alternatives. This new facility represents Vidrala's commitment to society and communities where it operates, as an intrinsic part of this business strategy, as well as the "Glass Made Good" sustainability strategy which focuses on the 4Ps, people, the planet, the population and prosperity.

This self-consumption project that Vidrala drives by the hand of Norvento Enerxía, adds to the one that in 2022 the company implemented at the Crisnova plant, located in Caudete, Albacete. That 12 MW facility already allowed the company to reduce the emission of about 12,000 tons of CO2 annually to the atmosphere.
