Nanjing Electric Insulators puts their trust in SORG

The SORG all-electric furnace installed at Nanjing Electric Insulator.

Nanjing Electric Insulator is the largest producer of electrical insulators for high-voltage transmission lines in China. The insulators produced are subject to a very tight glass chemistry specification, which is different for direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) insulators. With an article weight of up to 12kg, extreme demands are placed on the glass in terms of homogeneity, melting relics and inclusions from unmolten batch particles and seeds. Later failures of the insulators are not permitted.

The Ban on Imports of Flat Glass From Russia Needs Better Enforcement

The Ban on Imports of Flat Glass From Russia Needs Better Enforcement

Glass for Europe has released a position paper outlining several enforcement issues of the ban on imports of flat glass coming from Russia. Despite the ban imposed following the invasion of Ukraine, flat glass originating from Russia continues to enter the EU, which raises concerns about potential circumvention practices.

Cases of flat glass of fraudulent origin within the EU’s own borders have been observed and suspicions are high that several countries, such as Belarus, Montenegro and Serbia, are used as transit points for Russian glass imports. The import ban’s effective implementation needs to be strengthened to ensure this retaliation measure against Russia is effectively applied and to ensure fair competition on the EU market with EU-based manufacturers.

Carlton Power Agrees Partnership With Superglass in Green Hydrogen Project

The Stirling Green Hydrogen scheme will reduce carbon emissions at Superglass.

Superglass has entered into a strategic partnership with Carlton Power to supply it with green hydrogen for its manufacturing facility at Stirling, Scotland. The partnership agreement will support the development of a proposed Stirling Green Hydrogen scheme and reduce the glass mineral wool insulation manufacturer’s reliance on natural gas.

Secured demand for hydrogen at Stirling will underpin the initial development of a 10MW electrolyser using electricity that is generated from sources of renewable energy, primarily wind and solar. It would be located at Polmaise, close to the Superglass plant.
