British Glass has released a new infographic on the importance of keeping glass recycling local. The document highlights the benefits of a circular economy for glass within the UK, which can be recycled, remelted down, and remoulded infinitely without ever reducing its quality.

Currently, a significant amount of waste glass is exported from the UK to mainland Europe, which has negative impacts on the environment and economy. The export of glass cullet rose by 79,000 tonnes last year – a 31% increase compared to 2021. By keeping glass recycling local, it can decrease the use of non-renewable resources, reduce carbon emissions and open opportunities for local companies to market their participation in the circular economy.

Convinced that reuse is one of the vectors of the glass industry’s future, Verallia is stepping up initiatives in this field in Europe. For over three years, the Group has been fully committed to the development of reuse, working towards a viable solution for the planet and individuals. Between 2023 and 2024, several structuring projects will be deployed in France, Germany, Spain and Italy.

NSG Group has joined the League of Champions group within the Sustainable Procurement Pledge (SPP), the first in world's glass manufacturers. SPP is a not-for-profit organisation which exists to accelerate the drive towards sustainable supply chains across industries and geographies. With more than 12,000 committed ambassadors, it fosters the positive impact of procurement worldwide.

SPP provides tools, knowledge and a network to enable Procurement professionals to embed sustainability into their roles in whatever sector they operate. The name of the GlobalGlass Group will soon be changed into “Vaider Group”. The renaming is part of a thorough overhaul of the image and trademarks of the Group, as well as a reinforcement of business functions with the extended management of the Group.

The US National Insulation Association (NIA) announced the 2022 Safety Excellence Award winners in conjunction with its 67th Annual Convention. It is the only national award for outstanding safety performance in the mechanical insulation industry. The award was created more than a decade ago to recognise top companies that have established structured safety programmes to ensure the well-being of their employees and create safe working environments.
