Pilkington Expands North Carolina Operations

Pilkington North America are investing in the Laurinburg site in North Carolina.

Pilkington North America (PNA) is to expand its float glass facility in Laurinburg, North Carolina. The $86.8 million project that is expected to create 20 additional jobs in Scotland County includes the rebuilding of one of its two float glass lines, expansion of existing coating capabilities and other building and equipment improvements.

This year our Laurinburg plant will celebrate its 50th anniversary,” said Stephen Weidner, Pilkington’s Head of Architectural Glass North America and Solar. “This investment shows our ongoing commitment to our customers and the community. We appreciate the support received from the State on this project.”

Scottish Deposit Return Scheme Delayed Until March 2024

Scotland's deposit return scheme will now not launch until March 2023, the country's First Minister has announced. The scheme, which is aimed at increasing the number of single-use drinks bottle and cans that are recycled, due to start in August, has faced fierce opposition from many small breweries and distillers. Humza Yousaf announced the delay when setting out the governing Scottish Nationalist Party’s priorities over the next three years.

O-I Glass Advances Sustainability and Decarbonization in Vayres, France

O-I Glass has completed a €50 million investment to advance the sustainability of its plant in Vayres, France by installing the latest gas–oxygen combustion technology and heat recovery systems. These investments in the sustainable performance of the plant are set to reduce energy consumption and lower CO2 emissions by up to 20%. NY Governor Announces $2.5 Million to Expand Center for Glass Innovation

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced State investments to bolster the nation-leading collaboration with the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University to expand recycling markets and help municipal recycling programmes find new ways to recycle and reuse glass. An additional $2.5 million has been added to the $1.7 million already available for the Center's ongoing work on glass production, recycling and reuse.
