British Glass – Comment on Simpler Recycling Reform

British Glass – Comment on Simpler Recycling Reform

Dave Dalton, CEO of British Glass, said: “We welcome the inclusion of glass to the Simpler Recycling reform, as one of the recyclable waste materials to be collected from households across England. Ensuring that all households have access to kerbside glass collections is a positive step in helping to increase collection rates and facilitating a more convenient process for consumers. However, whilst this reform will introduce simpler collections for households, it will actually make the recycling process more complex and less efficient as more dry waste materials are mixed together."

With glass being 100% recyclable, we must ensure that this increased glass collection also leads to increased recycling rates."

Through Glass Via: Next Gen Advanced Electronics Packaging

E&R Engineering lasers for advanced electronics glass packaging.

As the demand for AI, high-speed computation and powerful computing continues to grow, there is an increasing need to enhance the number of transistors in a single package. However, traditional organic materials like silicon, commonly used for interposers, are encountering limitations. Glass substrates offer numerous advantages, including exceptional flatness, high thermal stability and rigidity. These attributes enable the miniaturisation and integration of transistors on a glass substrate.

Manufacturers Warn That New Proposals Will Make All Glass Bottles Look The Same

Adeline Farrelly, Secretary General of FEVE.

The European Container Glass industry welcomes the European Parliament’s Environment (ENVI) Committee vote amending the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) to promote full packaging circularity. But industry remains deeply concerned that Intellectual Property Rights for packaging are not protected. The risk is that packaged products will start to look the same. Creative designs and iconic shapes will gradually disappear, and commercial value will be squandered because brands can no longer stand out from each other on the shelves.
