Guardian Glass Honours Customers
Guardian Glass North America honoured the glaziers and fabricators of seven commercial projects at its Sixth Annual Commercial Project Awards event on March 6 in Las Vegas. More than 40 nominees were grouped based on location, and the six winners were selected by judges Katy Devlin, Editor in Chief, National Glass Association; Patrick Flannery, Editor, Annex Business Media’s Light Construction Group; Andrew Haring, Vice President of Business Development, National Glass Association; and Ellen Rogers, Editorial/Content Director, USGlass and Architects’ Guide to Glass & Metal.
Western US: Synapse in Culver City, CA. Architect: Abramson Architects. Glazier: Hale Glass, Inc. Fabricator: Glasswerks. The judges were drawn to the visual interest and detail of Synapse.
Midwestern US: Grand Valley State University Pew Library in Allendale, MI. Architect: Fishbeck. Glazier: Vos Glass LLC. Fabricator: Thompson I.G. One of the judges commented the Grand Valley State University Pew Library “… demonstrates the amazing ability of glass to provide connection.”
Northeastern US: Amaris at The Wharf in Washington, DC. Architect: Rafael Viñoly Architects. Glazier: TSI Exterior Wall Systems. Fabricator: Press Glass. “Not only does the glass offer a sleek building material for the twisting facade, the material's transparency allows you to see the incredible structure of the building inside.”
Southeastern US: Hotel ELEO at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. Architect: Alfonso Architects. Glazier: West Tampa Glass Company. Fabricator: Tristar Glass. The serpentine glass façade was a standout for the judges (pictured).
Mexico: Hospital Ángeles Querétaro in Santiago de Querétaro. Architect: Balcazar Arquitectos. Glazier: Grupo Tecnovidrio. Fabricator: Grupo Tecnovidrio. “The glass makes the hospital shimmer like a diamond.”
Canada: BCIT Health Sciences Centre in Burnaby, BC. Architect: Stantec. Glazier: Dekor Glass Ltd. Fabricator: Garibaldi Glass. “The WELL building certification demonstrates what's possible with next-level thermal and energy performance.”
People's Choice: Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV, Las Vegas, NV. Architect: TSK Architects. Glazier: Walters & Wolf. Fabricator: Glassfab. Large expanses of curtain wall provide powerful insulation against the sizzling Vegas.
