Duralex Resumes Production

Duralex has resumed production of glassware at Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin.

On 17 April, the Duralex furnace at the glassworks in Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin resumed production following a five-month shutdown. The company shut down operations on 1 November 2022 after being hit by the full force of rising energy prices a direct consequence of the war in Ukraine. The management had decided to place the plant's furnace on standby for five months and to place staff on reduced duties. The decision was necessary and was also part of a collective energy-saving effort recommended by the French government.

During this period, Duralex maintained its commercial activities; inventory in hand made it possible to meet orders over the shut-down period.

José-Luis Llacuna, CEO of Duralex, said: "The drop in gas and electricity prices has enabled us to approach 2023 with more peace of mind. We are pleased to be able to meet our commitment and resume our activities. I'd like to thank both the management and employees of Duralex who have managed to tackle this difficult period with resilience. It is also important to note the extremely invaluable assistance of the French Government and Minister of Industry, Roland Lescure, who stayed by our side throughout the crisis and helped us to save Duralex from the unforeseeable consequences of war in Ukraine".
