American Ceramics Society Award for Scott Cooper

Scott Cooper recognised by the American Ceramics Society.

The Technical Director of the CelSian US office Dr. Scott Cooper has received the 2023 Karl Schwartwalder Professional Achievement in Ceramic Engineering Award at the American Ceramic Society 125th Annual Meeting. The award recognises a ceramic/glass scientist under 40 making contributions to all people and the benefit of society.

Dr. Cooper said: “I'm humbled for the recognition but I feel like I'm just getting started on the spirit of the award. It's why I joined CelSian. Over the next 10 years, the glass industry will be cutting millions of tons of CO2 from glass production. We need to bridge the workforce gap – bringing talent into glass and giving them the knowledge to innovate. It's important because innovations in glass have made the world modern: safe food packaging, energy efficient buildings, high speed internet, etc. A healthy US glass industry means equals a vibrant economy. That's what I'm working on.”

The Karl Schwartzwalder-Professional Achievement in Ceramic Engineering (PACE) Award honours the past president of the National Institute of Ceramic Engineers; currently, the newly formed Education and Professional Development Council (EPDC) and Distinguished Life Member of ACerS. It consists of a commemorative glass piece with the words “Schwartzwalder-PACE Award” accompanied by a certificate containing a citation of achievement on which the Award is based.
